There are two main techniques of 3D printing

FDM – Fusion Deposition Modeling. It is the most common model, it uses the editing software in three dimensions on the computer, “slicing” the model into multiple layers. Then, the printer replicates these layers, with greater or lesser thickness, melting the filament and solidifying it quickly with each pass.

It has the advantage of great versatility, the possibility of printing in large dimensions, in addition to the lower cost per print. However, printing is slow, with lower resolution and less detail.

SLA – Stereolithography creates objects from a liquid polymer, the liquid resin hardened by ultraviolet laser beams. It is indicated for highly detailed production, coexisting with SLS ( Selective Laser Sintering ) techniques.

The base where the construction of the object is made moves and allows greater precision and detail in printing. This printing technique is more expensive and does not allow, for now, printing in large formats.

It is worth mentioning the technique of joining granular material , which is less common. It consists of the deposition of successive layers of powder / material chosen with layers of glue to guarantee the cohesion of the constructed object, something similar to inkjet printers.

To print you will need a “slicer

The slicer or slicer is nothing more than software, for PC and/or Mac, which breaks the object down into several slices that the printer is capable of interpreting and printing. There are several programs suitable for advanced, intermediate, or beginner users.

TPU plastic. With rubber characteristics, it is extremely flexible and is commonly used in the production of components for the automotive industry and for domestic applications. However, it makes printing difficult and slows down a lot.
