Despite the heavy attacks by the United States on Huawei, it is not new that the Chinese manufacturer continues to achieve great success in its own market, which continues to present itself as the largest in the world. However, recent information published by Trustdata reveals that Huawei was unable to move beyond third position during the first quarter of 2020.

According to data published by Trustdata, OPPO currently dominates China, with a 21.4% market share, followed by Vivo with a total of 20.5%. In this ranking, Huawei had to settle for the “bronze medal”.

Closing the TOP5 in the largest market in the world, we have Xiaomi (10.3%) and Apple (10.1%), which continue to maintain a stable position in this market, although a long way from the three most popular manufacturers.

Huawei without its “secret weapon” fails to maintain its overwhelming dominance

Although this report clearly places Huawei in third place, there is a small detail that makes all the difference. Usually, the number of sales is counted by joining the numbers of Huawei and Honor, which is not the case in this report by Trustdata.

As we can see in the image above, Honor occupies the 6th position, accounting for 9.7% of the Chinese market. Therefore, if the results of the two brands were counted together, Huawei would be able to occupy the first position with a total of 29.9%.

While Honor may not even reach half of Huawei’s market share, it remains obvious that the sales figures for the subsidiary remain central to its success.

COVID-19 pandemic will continue to “destroy” the smartphone market

The current global quarantine put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic is having devastating effects on virtually every sector of the world economy, and the smartphone world is no exception.

One of the countries most affected during the first months of the year was China, where the Coronavirus outbreak began. Being the largest market in the world, it ends up directly influencing the trends followed by the rest of the markets. According to data confirmed by Trustdata, the sale of smartphones in China decreased by more than 50% during the month of February.

Although signs of a possible recovery are already beginning, it will certainly take several months for the markets to return to normal.
