In the Google forums, there are a number of users who are reporting problems with the Google Messaging app. The errors include contacts mixed in the app but even more dramatic, SMS and files completely deleted.
The topic was created in 2019 but still has comments to this day. Thus, it seems to be a bug already known to the community that Google has not yet solved. It is important to note that this error is not exclusive to Google Pixel phones.

Users with Motorola, Lenovo, Huawei and LG reported this situation in their daily use of the mobile phone and the Messaging app. However, in the Google forums, several solutions are suggested to try to solve the problem.
Restarting the phone, clearing the app’s cache or uninstalling updates are some of the recommended solutions. However, nothing seems to solve this annoying bug. Users are frustrated as SMS continues to disappear and Google has yet to make an official statement on the matter.
Google messaging is quite popular in the United States
According to market research firm SimilarWeb, Messages Google is the second most used SMS app in the United States. First up is probably Apple’s iMessage.
Given the number of people using the Messages app, the number of people affected should be small compared to the user base. In any case, Google should quickly comment on this error, which is quite frustrating.
Although the most popular communication apps are WhatsApp and WeChat (China), Google Messages remains one of the best options for SMS in the Android ecosystem.
