Google Maps adds fantastic functionality for those who are Quarantined!

Google Maps continues to present itself as the most complete navigation application available for smartphones (Android and iOS), but it is also essential for those who are “closed at home”. With the vast majority of the population quarantined due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many end up resorting to home delivery for many of their meals.

With that in mind, Google Maps has now added a new feature, which allows you to quickly and easily find all the restaurants in your area that offer Take-away and home delivery. The new implementation is as simple as it is practical, being a simple filter that can be activated with a single click.

How to use the new Google Maps functionality

When you open Google Maps, you will immediately see the presence of two new buttons in the suggestion bar. If you have your smartphone with the Portuguese language active, you will see the ” Take-away ” and “Delivery” buttons. When you click on any of the options, the restaurants that offer the service will be immediately marked on the map.

In addition, you will also have quick access to a list of these establishments, where you can easily see their classification, opening hours, photos and more information.

This is a simple tool that can make life much easier for users. However, it is easy to think of some integrations that could maximize their usefulness.

Unfortunately, there is no integration with home delivery services such as Uber Eats, Glovo, noMENU or SendEAT. If this implementation were made, users would have an easier life. We can imagine, for example, that when clicking on an “order button” available on Google Maps, a list of available delivery services could be presented to the user, who would then open the respective application with the desired restaurant selected.

Although this “ideal scenario” is not a reality, there is no doubt that this small implementation will make the experience of using Google Maps much more complete. Certainly, the team of developers will continue to work on new features that can help users during these more difficult times.
