With each new generation of iOS it is normal for Apple to leave equipment behind. At a time when the latest equipment from the manufacturer already runs iOS 13.4, it has released an update for older models.
This is iOS 12.4.6 and is intended for devices that do not support iOS or iPadOS 13. The list includes iPhones, iPads and an iPod launched between 2013 and 2014 that are still used by many consumers.
Complete list of devices receiving iOS 12.4.6
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPad Air (1st generation)
- iPad Mini 2
- iPad Mini 3
- iPod Touch (6th generation)

How to update
If you have one of these devices, you can now do the update by going to Settings, General and Software Update. The update does not include new features but does include some security patches.
This is an update that you must install if you have one of these devices. Although it is “just another security update”, Apple released it so that your device is safe from the latest threats.
It is still notable that a device like the iPhone 5S, launched in September 2013, still receives an update. With almost seven years of life, Apple still worries about supporting the equipment.
Those who have an Android device know that they will hardly have updates for more than three years, at best. It is also for this long support that Apple still continues to retain many users.
